In Vista roaming profiles are a little different.
We append .V2 to the file servers copy o fthe profile ( i.e joe.v2 )

1. Create user called Template
a. Configure him for purple desktop
2. Logoff template
3. Logon as domain admin
4. Use the Profiles UI to copy the user domain\template’s profile to \\server\share\VistaUsers.V2
a. Make sure to grant “everyone” permissions ( or whoever you want to acccess this profile )
NOTE: For supermandatory profiles you need to copy it to \\server_name\mandatory\MandProfile.man.V2
5. Logoff as domain admin
6. On the DC – create 2 users.
7. Configure both VMand1 and 2 for the same profile path \\server\share\VistaUsers
a. Note the lack of the “.v2”
8. Rename \\server\share\VistaUsers.V2
a. Ntuser.dat to ntuser.man
9. Verify logon as VMand1 and 2 get the same mandatory profile and cannot change it.
Just thought i'd toss up the quick and dirty method here...
I've been using mandatory profiles for years along with the "Delete cached copy of roaming user profiles" policy. It's been working well for both NT and XP, but with Vista the mandatory profiles don't delete. On subsequent logins by the same user, some of the group policy settings appear to be ignored (such as remove Run from the Start Menu), and I have to log in as the local administrator to delete the local profile. Once deleted, policies apply correctly - until the user logs off and back in. Can you shed any light on this issue?
We have been using mandatory profiles with Vista for three quarters now. The UAC really gives us a run for our money. In the student mandatory profile we turn off the UAC & in the admin profile. When the profiles doesn't pull properly, the UAC is back on for that user (even admin).We have internet testing programs that won't work if the UAC is turned on. As long as the UAC is turned off, the PC will let the tests load without incident. Do you think it is the same situation as yours?
Vista is pretty good other than this "UAC"!!!!!
For some reason I create the profile, but when I go and logon as the user, I dont get any of the desktop icons of printers. I checked the profile folder on the server and the desktop folder shows all the icons I want on the desktop. Where did I go wrong??
I'm hoping perhaps someone can help me. I created a domain user "laba" that is a standard user.
I logged in and set up the profile as i wanted it to be.
I logged off then logged in as a domain admin. I used the Environment tool to copy the "laba" profile to \\server1\profiles$\laba.v2
I then changed the AD and had the laba user point to \\server1\profiles$\laba.v2 but when i log in as laba it keeps saying the profile did not load properly
Did i do something wrong?
This happens very often. I ran through some blogs and found only one thing that helped... I had to edit the registry.
!!!CAUTION!!! Backup your registry before you do this editing!!!!
Log on as the local administrator.
Go to START > RUN - type "regedit" and hit ENTER.
H_Key_Local_Machine > Microsoft > Windows NT > ProfileList > You will see a list of folders - please leave the first 3 folders alone. They have to do with the admin profiles. Open the other folders and look for the user's name in the "ProfileImagePath". When you locate the folder with the user's name in it - delete the folder(s). There is a high possiblility there are more than one folder for that user.
Restart your computer and log on as that user. It should pull a clean fresh profile.
