Jobs (and altitude sickness)

Jobs (and altitude sickness)

  • Comments 1

One of my 1:1s this week was with my co-worker Randy.  Randy lives in Colorado so he'll be my local expert at the Grace Hopper Conference in a few weeks. :-)    While browsing through the GHC site, I found a section on altitude sickness that said:

"High Altitude Illness is the result of sudden exposure to low atmospheric pressure and the subsequent lower intake of oxygen. Shortness of breath, loss of appetite, nausea, sleeplessness, headache, dizziness, and rapid heartbeat are symptoms of a phenomenon called High Altitude Illness. Minimize your chances of developing altitude illness by following these simple prevention guidelines..."

That sounds scary.  It has a list of things to do to avoid it, so looks like I'm going to be downing water like crazy.  It also notes that 1 alcoholic drink there will be like 3 at sea-level.  Wow.

I brought up Randy to tell people about his new Jobs posts at MIS Laboratory.  While he references jobs at Microsoft, the preparedness he discusses and the need for differentiation and enthusiasm are important anywhere.
