Failover Cluster Instances as well as Availability Groups have some great features coming up in SQL Server 2014.

Take a look at Luis' post on what you can try out with publicly available CTP1: http://blogs.technet.com/b/dataplatforminsider/archive/2013/06/27/alwayson-in-sql-server-2014-ctp1.aspx

  • Thanks Sanjay for sharing reference.

Do you know if 2014 AlwaysOn Groups will be interoperable with 2012 instances so that a primary and a secondary are not necessarily running the same version.

To be specific, can we have

Primary in 2012 and Secondary in 2014 or

Primary in 2014 and Secondary in 2012

  • Wish you didn't have to buy enterprise for AlwaysOn.  I have a MS Access sized database with only 4 users doing OLTP that needs high availability. Paying for the enterprise version isn't an option.
