  • Hello, I am feeling like such a loser having followed the instructions here and failed both times. VS2012, .Net 4.5 runtime. Same error both times when running locally for test purposes:

Parser Error Message: Failed to decrypt using provider 'CustomProvider'. Error message from the provider: Value cannot be null.

    Parameter name: keyObject

If it worked, the next step would be to put the config information into web.release.debug and have a local db for debug. Company policy requires our sites to have this. Any ideas?

  • gacutil /l shows PKCS12ProtectedConfigurationProvider, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, Public KeyToken=34da007ac91f901d, processorArchitecture=MSIL

Thumbprint matches expected value. Procmon shows a failure accessing the seeming unrelated registry key just before failure: HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\ASP.NET\4.0.30319.0\CompilationMutexName.

  • Hello,

i managed to use encryption of app.config for a web role project.

is this also possible for a web site running on azure? i am digging the web for days now but it seems this is a feature for web roles only.

  • In my application i am creating dynamic tables like i am storing different customer data in different tables (Dynamic Schema). How well i leverage of Data Sync Service from Azure? I would like to use Active/Active deployment for high availability. How well I use Data sync Service to Sync databases in same time?

  • Does no one at Microsoft respond to the questions, comments, concerns, that they solicited in their own blog post?

  • We have an updated article that explains how to configure and deploy an ASP.NEt Web app with a ReportViewer control to Windows Azure. msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg430128.aspx

  • There seems to be a bug in the later versions of PowerPivot, in Excel 2013.  Even if you check "save the password" when creating the connection, the password information is not saved after you close and reopen the document and need to refresh the tables.  This issue prevents automating any reporting applications.

  • Hi Wayne,

I am looking for more information on the real limit of an Azure Database Server: if Microsoft removes the 150 DBs limit, what is the new number? Unlimited?

I need to know this number for an usage of Azure Federation in a multi-tenants architecture: each tenant can have a database and I don't know how many tenants I can have...

    Thanks!

  • Is it true that sharding will no longer be supported ? If this is the case why and what will replace it ?

  • You can make a simple ASP.NET MVC or Webforms app published as an Azure website. This way, when working on the website, it doesn't matter if your IP is not in the list.

  • In SQL Azure, how can I insert varbinary(max) data from a script?  I want to be able to populate some data from a visual studio database build.  I have a script that will work in SSMS but it fails in VSDB due to the very long text.  The script has a very long value.  I would like to read the value from a file instead of having it in the script.  But, OPENROWSET with SINGLE_BLOB is not supported.  Any ideas?

  • Thank you!

  • What is the benefit of using a GUID as primary key over an integer? I'm building a Windows Azure application that I want to be scalable so in that context, wht do I get from a GUID that justifies the datasize and indexing complications of a GUID?

  • Great article and the code was great as well with the exception of one issue. When you created the image from the assembly you didn't dispose of any of the resources. I was using this code and drawing four different pins and quickly started getting out of memory exceptions on my server. Other than that it worked great. The site I'm using it on is qommnd.com which is a command center type website for the game qonqr.com. Thanks!
