Dear Customers,

Microsoft SQL Server team is pleased to announce the release of SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2 (SP2).

As part of our continued commitment to software excellence for our customers, this upgrade is free and doesn’t require an additional service contract. Both, the Service Pack and Feature Pack updates are available for download on the Microsoft Download Center. This includes Slipstream installation packages that can be utilized with existing licenses to install (or upgrade to) new instances with SP2 pre-installed.

SQL Server 2012 SP2 contains fixes to issues that have been reported internally and through our customer feedback platforms and Hotfix solutions provided in SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 1 up to and including Cumulative Update 9.

Service Pack 2 also includes supportability enhancements and issues that have been reported through the Windows Error Reporting system. Microsoft SQL Server 2012 SP2 also contains key customer requests as outlined in this knowledge base article. Customers are highly encouraged to stay on a supported service pack to ensure they are on the latest and most secure version of SQL Server 2012.

  • Any word when MSDN will offer downloads for SQL Server 2012SP2? I mean an installation package with SP2 already included. Currently, only SP1 if available.

  • Hi, I want to thank your team for providing the media with the SP1 already slipstreamed.  I maintain offline network installs (dev and prod) for our organization.  I used to create slipstreams manually.  It takes a effort to get it just right.  Having you measure twice, cutting once is a better than having your customers measuring and cutting short most of the time.  Is there any estimate as to when the slipstream with SP2 will be available now that SP2 is RTM?  Thanks.

  • Any reason why CU10 and KB2969896 were not included as part of SP2? Can we expect a hot fix including CU10 and KB2969896 for SP2 in the coming days? Thanks.

  • @Tommy Bollhofer - Finish reading the article: The first Cumulative Update of SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2 is scheduled to release end of July 2014. It will contain hotfixes that have been delivered in SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 1 Cumulative Update 10.

  • @Nathan - thanks, missed the note regarding CU10. Presumably KB2969896 will be included in the July CU as well.

  • Hi,

when click on Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012 SP2 Express > www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx i can 'see' only Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Express! Only the Versionnumber 11.0.5058.0 and the publishing date will tell this is SP2 for Express! This is only at Express!

    Can you fix this?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Winfried,

Thanks for letting us know. Yes we will fix this.

    Regards/mfG.

  • Update:

Fix for issue described in KB support.microsoft.com/.../2969896 is now available for download for SP2 via the KB article hotfix download link.

  • Any word on when this bug connect.microsoft.com/.../ssis-fails-with-unexpected-termination-when-using-derived-column-to-cast-dt-ntext-to-dt-text-1252 "SSIS fails with Unexpected termination when using derived column to cast DT_NTEXT to (DT_TEXT,1252)" will be fixed?  This occurs after upgrading to SP2 and has caused at least one of my ssis package to fail consistently and I am waiting for a fix or a documented work around

  • Hi Tim,

Thanks for your feedback about this SSIS issue that was raise through MSConnect. I reached out to the SSIS team. They have confirmed this is on their radar. They will communicate back through the MSConnect item.

If any of you are experiencing a production down situation because of this I recommend you contact Microsoft Support Services for assistance.

  • Why do SP2?  Why not just CU10 from SP1?  Doesn't that have more recent bug fixes?  Is SP2 the equivalent of SQL Server with CU9 or does SP2 add something additional?

    thanks

  • Am I the only one who cannot download these SQL ISOs with SP2 from MSDN anymore?  I had access and started downloading in the morning, but tonight the files are missing (yet SP1 copies are available for download).  Any guesses on what happened or if they were pulled?
