    Windows Vista: Doing Deployment Right

At the UK Partner Conference yesterday, I was asked several times when is Vista readiness & training material going to become available? Well it's coming thick and fast and this is the latest offering we have for UK Partners:

This one-day session is a combination of presentations that focus on growing services opportunities for partners, and a series of new technical exercises that highlight some of the compelling new design enhancements in deploying Windows Vista desktops. This course will concentrate on two of the key services opportunity areas for Windows Vista within your organization:

    • Planning services - which includes infrastructure development services to support desktop migrations and Windows Vista business value consulting
    • Integration services - which include deployment services and resources, and application compatibility

If you're a system builder, VAR or SI and work on desktop deployment this looks like a good investment of a day and £100/£150 to me. Check out the website for more.

NY Times reader: free download now available

James blogged about this last week and I downloaded and played with this cool new application this week. I only hope that The Times of London adopts this technology as it really does make reading a newspaper a very pleasant experience on Windows by using the Windows Presentation Foundation technology. This allows things like easily putting stories in column form, displaying with fonts designed for onscreen reading, adapting the space to different screens and allowing readers to get their news online and off.

Don't take my word for it though. Register and try it for yourself

UK Silicon Cup: putting something back

[check out other photos on my Flickr photostream]

The annual gathering of the great and the good from the UK IT industry happened last week in Cowes, Isle of Wight. After a Thursday evening of merriment and a few small glasses of sweet sherry we set sail for two races in 37ft yacht on the Friday - with 34 boats in that class and a bunch of other dandies on their bigger yachts. Having won the class last year, the good ship TBS set out with a tough act to follow (especially as Captn Mad Dog Jim Bennett was AWOL in Parma). Needless to say we had a poor first race and missed the line by 20 seconds or so in appalling conditions but came back strong in the second race for a 3rd place finish. We even won a trophy for best improved.

On a more serious note, The Silicon Cup is a great event that raises lots of cash for charity and is a great opportunity for networking with other folks in the UK IT industry (Orange, O2, BT, Avanade, Computacenter, SCC, HP, eXpansys, Teksys to name but a few). The provisional dates for 2007 are 20th & 21st September 2007 and you can find out more by joining the mailing list.

thanks to JonP and the boys for inviting me in the TBS yacht again!

4 free VIP tickets to DigitalLife in NYC

I've noticed several postings about free tickets to DigitalLife in New York next month at the Javits Center but I have something a little juicier - 4 free VIP tickets. Ahhh, of my favourite TLA's. What do these Willy Wonka style golden numbers give you access to??

VIP Day takes places on Thursday, October 12 (9:00am - 4:00pm) and VIP ticket-holders are entitled to an exclusive tour of the show floor, special sponsor product unveilings prior to the public opening as well as access to the following keynote addresses:

10:00 AM - The Beauty and Power of Windows Vista
Mike Sievert, Microsoft corporate vice president and head of the Windows Vista marketing team, will provide an in-depth look at the revolutionary and much-anticipated new Windows operating system and the impact it will have on consumers.?

11:30 AM - HD World: The Fusion of Entertainment and Electronics
Stan Glasgow, President and COO of Sony Electronics Inc., will demonstrate how high-definition audio and video technologies are continuing to transform our entertainment experience.

Pretty cool eh? If you can be in NYC on October 12th for opening day and would like to win a VIP ticket all you have to do is reply here with your link to the #1 website/blog you visit every day. (I'm always on the lookout for new sites to explore). I'll pick the 4 favourite's and email the winners by the end of the week so please provide a link to your own blog or email so I can contact you.

    Good luck!!

(ps - emailing me the address of my own blog whilst admirable isn't going to cut the mustard on this one...but thanks for thinking that) :)

Exchange, Vista, Office: UK microsite goes live

I've been waiting to talk about this site for a while and today it went live - great work from the guys and girls in the UK partner team that I work with. The site looks terrific I think using the Aero Glass look 'n feel from Vista and packed with lots of useful content from the Economic Impact of Vista Whitepaper, videos from the thespian PTS team, links to training and lots more.

I've been asked a lot about EVO content over the last few weeks, no more so than today at our UK Partner Conference (more to come on that soon) and this site is the best answer and will continue to get more and more stuff over the coming weeks.

If you're a partner and want to know more about Exchange Server 2007, Vista and Office this is your one stop shop.
