Now that Christian is down under, the Blue Monster is spreading there fast - though Nick Mayhew, Frank Arrigo and Nick Hodge were already signed up followers. I even received a request from the Melbourne office today to send down some of my business cards for Blue Monster followers. Weird, but cool....my business card is becoming collectable!!
Way cooler than my card though is this Blue Monster that Paul Jenkins brought along to ReMix07 in Australia. Snapped by Nick for posterity. I neeeeeeeed one of these for our office :)
I had a good chat with Hugh today about the Blue Monster story to date and think I may do a post on this plotting the history and growth. We started out by trying to use this "thing" to stimulate a different kind of conversation about, around and for Microsoft and I think we can safely say it's working. The journey continues though and I'd love to hear from other like the guys above who have taken it to heart and are using it or even just rallying around. Your stories count...and there may some cool prizes coming your way :)
Your shot typifies where I think Blue Monster should go next. You should make a widget available where people can can create their own interpretion of the Blue Monster.
Offer alternative eyes, teeth, make the whole font available for people to create their own straplines and see what comes of it.
Hugh invited people to send in their own alternative manifesto's so why not the Blue Monster too?
It would be interesting to see the increase in proliferation of gapingvoid once the gapingvoid widget launched.
Giving people the control of the Blue Monster message would be a great inclusive way of spreading the word - and more importantly spreading the word that people want to spread NOT the word Microsoft want to tell people they want!
Just for the caption of the photo: Left to Right is Paul Jenkins and Will Hughes (me).
And the reason for the stupid expression is that we were trying to kill each other in Gears of War on the XBox 360 consoles that were set up.
And err.. you've tagged it remix08. Planning ahead? :)
thanks Will...yeah, planning ahead...or too fast on the keyboard perhaps :)
Hmmm, Open Source Blue Monster eh Paul? :)
...totally Steve! If the overriding message is one of The Blue Monster, then in theory, whatever comes of it, there will be some positive response. I'm not talking Chevy Taho freedom, but given the right tool (maybe a Silverlight-based widget...) people would be able to see and use the very best of MS's latest products, as well as carve out their own "What Blue Monster means to me" type message.
Nick , the DPE team and I both really enjoyed ReMix Australia in Melbourne earlier in the week. Although
You'll notice the new addition no doubt to my left hand column: This is a very long story but Steve Clayton
