It looks like another Zune will soon be joining the ranks of the Clayton gadget collection – I could hardly contain myself when my pal Fred let me know about the rumoured Joy Division Zune earlier today. The above image is a mockup by Engadget but if it looks half as good I’ll be having one. I didn’t think we could one-up Apple with the U2 iPod but the Zune team seem to have found the only way to do this for me by securing Peter Saville.
By sheer coincidence I spent the weekend hanging New Order/Joy Division album art on the walls of my new house. I currently have True Faith (FAC 183), True Faith Remix (FAC 183r) and Fine Time (FAC 223) hanging up and am looking for a new frame for Unknown Pleasures (FACT 10) – the image above.
Now, if the Joy Division comes as a customisable original, I’ll be adorning mine with FAC 512 (which I believe is the in the historic FAC sequence).
June 10th apparently :)
[update] ZuneInsider says the JD Documentary on the device.
Good to hear about your Factory collection, Steve.
I have a bunch of white label radio promos, including the original Blue Monday, and True Faith, that you mention above.
Obviously have pretty much all the New Order normal releases and remixes too.
Haven't played them in years, as the ability to do so was lost when I moved to the States and the electrical issues forced me to sell/give away the wherewithal.
Now I'm back, kids and lack of space (and funds) have prevented recreating the rather decent set-up I had before.
Gareth
Unfortunately Steve, I think you've missed the boat on that one!
From Wikipedia :
"The last ever Factory catalogue number was given to Tony Wilson's coffin (FAC 501), reported on the site 'Cerysmatic Factory'"
And the numbers were never necessarily issued in sequence order - Fac 491 was issued in July 07 and Fac 511 was issued in May 2004!
Cool design for the back of an mp3 player though!
Rich
ah, well spotted Rich. RIP Anthony H eh....
did Rob Gretton also get a FAC coffin?
defo going to get one and put my own FAC number on the back I hope!
Steve
Hope you mean a Zune and not a coffin there Steve!
Don't think Rob Gretton got a FAC no on his coffin, but a recent exhibition centered around him got a FAC number...
This looks like more information on this:

I assume my invite is in the post? Next Tuesday my main man Peter Hook of New Order Joy Division is doing
