As reported in many places you can now grab the beta of the Windows Live Essentials beta from download.live.com.

This gets you very pretty and functional new version of Messenger, Mail, Photo Gallery, Movie Maker, Writer, Toolbar and Family Safety all via one installer package. Obviously you can pick and choose which pieces you need but the two essentials for me are Messenger which has some very nice integration with the new Wave 3 home page/services and Writer which is still the best blogging tool on the web.

Enjoy.

  • Agree with the point about Live Writer, but the version of WLW in the package you're describing this still seems to be the beta from August... Happy to be corrected! :-)

  • I have to say "me too" here.  I love these new versions.  I've used Writer since it was a private beta here at Microsoft.  But as the defacto-family-photographer, my all-time favorite in the suite is Windows Live Photo Gallery.  Great basic photo editing, merging/stitching panoramas automatically, and tagging photos with metadata "descriptive tags" or "people tags".  And those people tags can be just a name, or they can link to a person on your Live contacts if you want.

    Web 2.1, baby.  :)
