The Sunday Times Culture section lists the first 50 of a two part series today titled “Top 100 Blogs”. Whilst the list doesn’t have the usual suspects of Techcrunch, Scoble, Perez Hilton and definitely have more of a UK focus it’s still a pretty tawdry list. It seems to focus on puffing up the careers of the likes of Jeffrey Archer (apparently a “cult” blog) Rosie O’Donnell and Lily Allen. The inclusion of Paul Daniels blog starts with a note that this may make you lose the will to live. I nearly lost the will to extend my reading beyond this point. With 200m+ blogs and some damn good ones in the UK, it’s pretty poor list that includes this in it’s “Top 100”. Much of the list reads more like a D list celebrity quest.
There are a few decent entries in there such as The Sartorialist and English Cut and I can only hope the concluding 50 next week covering Science, Art, The Home, Theatre, Pop and Classical holds some more inspiration to add to my RSS feeds.
In case you’re reading this Mr Appleyard, here are some suggestions
Here’s hoping for a better list next week….
Oversold to me.
The ST have got it completely wrong. The list just reads like a recommendations list and poor one at that.
'Much a blog about nothing'!
I saw this too.. Got so frustrated with it I stopped reading. As you say, hopefully part 2 redeems it!
