    YouTube using Silverlight

WOW. This little sliver of news from MIX09 this week slipped by me. YouTube are streaming March Madness live using Silverlight. If you don’t know what March Madness is, don’t worry (strangely I knew…) but that’s not the news. The news is this isn’t being delivered in Flash. The quality is stunning.

Start of things to come on YouTube? I hope so….

    New Microsoft Ad: Laptop Hunters

    <a href=";playlist=videoByUuids:uuids:0bb6a07c-c829-4562-8375-49e6693810c7&amp;showPlaylist=true&amp;from=msnvideo" target="_new" title="Laptop Hunters $1000 – Lauren Gets an HP Pavilion">Video: Laptop Hunters $1000 – Lauren Gets an HP Pavilion</a>

I pal showed this to me yesterday whilst here on Microsoft Campus – and today it went public. Next stage of the Crispin Porter + Bogusky effect.

I’m LOVING the new laptop hunters site to accompany this. Clean, elegant and simple.

….and finally check out the banner on WSJ

Did Lauren Choose The Right PC?

I had a bad feeling as I read Todd Bishop’s post this morning on the “Lauren” ad and whether she chose the right machine under the circumstances. I was thinking "”uh oh…specs look similar….don’t let me get to the bottom and find a similar price”. I was wrong…I was astonished actually at the margin of price difference. See what you think (image courtesy of TechFlash)

Did she make the right choice? In today’s economic world you’d have to say yes. On paper that looks like $2000 for some extra battery life. The reality is different of course as there is vastly superior industrial design, a better screen and some weight but for the majority of people I suspect that’s going to be a hard $2k to swallow.

Lets be clear about the ad before all hell breaks loose in the comments. Lauren was looking for a good deal on PRICE. I think she got one. She chose the right PC for her…your choice may be based on looks, power, performance, OS….a whole range of things that would lead you down a different path. All perfectly valid…on price though, her decision was as they say “a no brainer”.

New Mouse for your Mac from Microsoft

I’ve posted about the Arc mouse before and how cool and well designed i think it is. Well now any self respecting Mac user can get a sleek white version to match their hardware…shame there isn’t a metallic one really.

anyway, announced today are these 4 new colours for the Arc - frost white, eggplant purple, deep olive green and marine blue.

In related news Microsoft also announced a Notebook Cooling Base today which I may also need for my Mac Book Pro :)

    Dell Adamo. When?

Could this be my new laptop? Quite possibly…it’s the Mac I always wanted :)

LaptopMag has a pretty decent review given their limited hands on at CES. Things that attracts me to it?

    • backlit keyboard – I can’t understand why Sony haven’t added this to the Vaio line
    • aluminium construction
    • all ports on the read of the unit. hurrah!

    bring it on…
