“Seriously, knowledge is power” – so says Wired in Balance Your Media Diet, part of the New Rules for Highly Evolved Humans in their current US edition.
It made me think about my media diet which is a mix of PC based, mobile and paper based (my TV is still crapped out). By their reckoning the average American spends 9 hours a day in front of some kind of screen and I’d guess I’m on a par with that, perhaps more. I’m just an information junkie but which I think stems from my keenness to always know the latest information in my chosen subject area (tech which by it’s nature moves fast) but also my desire to share. Okay I’m not Scoble but an increasing part of my work seems to be acting as a super aggregator – sorting the wheat from the chaff and publishing it here or firing around emails internally to people I think may be interested.
It’s a tip for keen networkers – find out what your network is interested in and feed their media diet. Do it wisely mind – you don’t want to deluge your spokes with information from the hub. Feed them just enough at just the right moments and you become an trusted advisor.
Some other fun tips from the Wired article with my brief comments.
