Released today in conjunction with Windows 7 is the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool.

From Microsoft Store…

Overview

When you purchase Windows 7 from Microsoft Store, you have the option to download an ISO file or compressed files. The Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool allows you to create a copy of your Windows 7 ISO file on a USB flash drive or a DVD. To create a bootable DVD or USB flash drive, download the ISO file and then run the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool. Once this is done, you can install Windows 7 directly from the USB flash drive or DVD.

Bootable media allows you to install Windows 7 without having to first run an existing operating system on your machine.

  • There is no link for the .ISO for Win7 Professional.  and it's really difficult to install.  I haven't managed to do it yet.

  • @Jacob, where did you buy Windows 7 from?  Microsoftstore.com?

  • The link for the download is not working, could you please update the link?

    Thank you,

    Christopher

  • @Christopher,

The tool has been pulled from the website, because Microsoft for some reason felt compelled to take GPLv2 code from the ImageMaster Project that is hosted at CodePlex and use it to build the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool.

By not re-distributing the source of the tool and severely limiting the rights of the user (in the EULA of the tool), Microsoft was breaching the GPLv2 License. For that reason it is no longer allowed to publish the tool.
