I thought this was a joke when I read it, but evidently not. If you want a quick way to get to all the settings on Windows 7, GodMode is it.  How?

Add a new folder to your desktop and name it GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} - you will now see the icon above on your desktop and a pretty long list of items. Below is just a small sample.

  • It's the control panel folder. All the groups match each of the control panel apps with the items being actions associated with each control panel app.

You can replace the name "GodMode" with any one of your choosing.

  • It also works in Vista, though not in XP.

  • Thanks for this handy tip - very useful!

  • Don't forget to mention this does not work on a 64bit machine, and when you try, you could seriously f#ck up your machine..

On a32bit it works like a charm though !!

  • @Marijn : It DOES work on Windows 7 x64.....Vista x64 seems to give problems though...(haven't tried it on Vista..)..

  • Tried on Vista Enterprise 64 Bit and it seriously affected the Window Explorer. It went into infinite loop for closing and restarting...!!!

To fix it, the folder needs to be removed from the desktop. Need to open Task Manager => New Task => Browse...( go to Desktop)

    a. Create any temporary folder on desktop

    b. Drag & Move the GodMode folder (find it using Search Box on top left) into the new folder

    c. Run a new task 'explorer.exe'

    d. Delete the folder containing GodMode thingy. Done !

  • Godmode folder is no where to be found, so I can't move it. Command Prompt can't find it. Also can't open browser to view desktop because Windows Explorer keeps crashing.

  • Thanks for the tip! This is a useful little easter-egg in Windows 7!

I'll continue to call it "God Mode" even though it's a red herring (the prefix is arbitrary).

    Loving Win7.

    Enjoy!

  • It was discovered in Windows Vista called Master Control Panel… When I didn’t have blog….and posted on various Windows Forums.

No mattter! Now its God Mode for Windows 7.

  • Here is how to fix GodMode on 64bit Vista.

  • Actually I had to go as far as remove the folder c:\users\%homeFolder%\desktop to fix the issue in Vista 64bit. I know I know I was warned but couldn't help myself.
