Great to see my pals from Splendid working with JC Decaux to land Surface at Heathrow airport. The app looks pretty nice too with Tag Heuer on show on two tables in Terminal 5’s gateroom and lounge. The tables are of course hooked up to the net and allow passengers to find destination-specific tourist info.
As locations go, airports hold huge potential for Surface so I’m hoping the trial is successful and we see more of them. There are plenty of obvious uses such as finding directions to your gate or store listings but also more airline specific stuff like managing your itinerary, membership details etc.
It’s rare to find people who are not impressed with Surface after getting to play with it, hence I hope we find a subtle way to ensure people realise these tables are from Microsoft to change some perceptions on innovation.
In related news, Seattle has just taken delivery of a Hard Rock Cafe that contains Surface tables.
