Official blog of the development team of StreamInsight.
As many of you have noticed, the November CTP of SQL Server 2008 R2 has been released about two weeks ago. StreamInsight, being part of the SQL Server suite of products, has been part of that release as well. However, we want to make sure that you are able to work with the latest bits, and so we already published our November CTP Refresh, which contains further fixes and improvements.
Our first public release, StreamInsight CTP2, was well received and generated a lot of excitement. Many of you provided great feedback through the forum as well as in email conversations. We would like to encourage you to also use SQL Server Connect to communicate your feedback. All bugs, issues, and feature requests submitted through this tool will go directly to the development team. Connect is the most efficient channel for you to educate the product group about the features you need and expect as well as to contribute to the quality of the product. The improvements over our previous beta include
This release of StreamInsight provides the documentation (also online on MSDN) and the samples package as part of the installation. We strongly recommend to use the samples to become familiar with our product and its capabilities. Moreover, the StreamInsight Forum is a great place to discuss questions and issues with the community and the development team. We would like to thank you for your continued interest in StreamInsight and are very much looking forward to your experiences and feedback! The StreamInsight Team
I was really excited about this new technology; but now seeing that its going to only be available in the Data Centre skew I'm not going to waste my time learning it.
This technology has wide spread appeal and limiting to a small number of installs is just daft and will utlitmately confine this wonderful new piece of technology to the fringes.
Please lock horns with your marketing department and push this down into the Standard sku or make it available as a sperate "buy on".
The details of StreamInsight's alignment with SQL Server SKUs are not fully specified yet, but it will be available with most other SQL Server SKUs as well, not only Data Center.
That is great news Roman - but can you let your marketing team know that too .... http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2008/en/us/R2-editions.aspx which states Data Centre only.
This is a great technology and it should be available across the stack - even if you guys had throttling for scalability across editions for instance database mirroring.
Many thanks, Tony.
In which case it would be good to update this page http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2008/en/us/R2-editions.aspx that clearly highlights that Stream Insight is only in DC SKU
Does StreamInsight worky with SQL Server 2008 R2 only or can it be used with other versions of SQL Server?
StreamInsight does not depend on SQL Server at all. The discussion above refers to its shipping vehicle (since it is released by the SQL business unit). Once the platform is installed, it can be used without SQL Server.
Indeed, complete agree with Tony. Current x (4,6,8) cored machines make datacenter a very small niche and stream insight should be added at least to Enterprise edition
