Demo: Using System Center with BizTalk RFID to manage RFID Network

Few months back I had written a post titled "Managing complex RFID Network". As RFID deployments go from pilots to production managing RFID networks will be critical. It is same as managing any other mission critical systems. As I wrote in previous article BizTalk RFID comes with out of box support for System Center Operations Manager. Let's say suddenly one of our RFID devices fails in your shipping dock you want your IT folks to immediately know so they can fix it and get business underway. System center provides the infrastructure to monitor your environment in real time.

Following is a very simple demo of how BizTalk RFID and System Center Operations Manager work together to provide a solution to monitor your physical world.

Note; Ofcourse you can reuse the events and other infrastructure built for SCOM and leverage it with other systems like HP OpenView or IBM Tivoli.

Microsoft Manufacturing & Resources Blog : RFID Momentum

Tyler Bryson, the US General Manager for Manufacturing at Microsoft runs Microsoft Manufacturing & Resources Blog. He recently posted a blog post on RFID Momentum. Greg Walker our Supply Chain expert was the author of the post. I think it is great to hear about RFID momentum from people who are talking to customers everyday. :)

But the RFID conversations I have on a daily basis with our Manufacturing customers are not about mandates or the latest active tag capabilities. They are about business value and how RFID can be leveraged in their supply chains and manufacturing facilities to drive a level of visibility and execution that was not possible before RFID.

    CodeGuru: Is RFID Still Important?

Brad Jones has written an article on whether RFID is still Important. Please take a look and let us know what you think.

RFID was all the rage in 2004 until about 2006. With Wal-Mart pushing, RFID was constantly making headlines. Even Microsoft jumped deeply into RFID. In the 2005 TechEd Microsoft unwrapped their RFID infrastructure built on SQL Server and .NET. It is now 2008 and the buzz on RFID seems to have all but disappeared. Even Google Trends shows a downward slop for RFID
