We have seen very good use of Microsoft Surface in the medical field with a variety of applications. As you might imagine, with a multi-user platform, it improves solutions for doctor to doctor and doctor to patient consultations as well as a variety of therapies.

I spotted this article on Ubergizmo today highlighting a pilot being done at Children’s Hospital Boston for cerebral palsy patients. The work is spearheaded by researchers at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences looking to provide innovative therapy to kids with cerebral palsy. Being that this pilot is focused on kids, they’ve made it especially fun. Microsoft Surface is a platform on which a variety of therapeutic applications can be developed depending on the type of cerebral palsy for which the child is receiving therapy. In this case, both direct interaction with hands and objects are used in the custom applications built by the team.
