We are pleased to announce the availability of SQL Azure Data Sync Preview. The Preview does not require a registration code and is available to anyone who has a SQL Azure account.
Improvements for the Preview release include:
Unfortunately we have not been able to add the functionality to update sync group configuration when the schema changes. We intend to add this functionality in a future service release.
During the Preview, like the previous CTPs, using the service is free – though there are the normal Windows Azure and SQL Azure charges. Pricing for the production version has not yet been announced.
Data Sync Preview is not backwardly compatible with CTP2. If you are upgrading from CTP2 you need to remove all databases from the CTP2 sync groups, de-provision each database using deprov.exe, delete all CTP2 sync groups, and uninstall the CTP2 client agent.
The CTP2 site will be taken down in a few weeks. The sooner you upgrade the better.

I used the new SQL Azure Data Sync Preview to create a demo blog post. Following the 29 steps shown in my PASS Summit: SQL Azure Sync Services Preview and Management Portal Demo post of 10/16/2011 (oakleafblog.blogspot.com/.../pass-summit-sql-azure-sync-services.html, updated 10/17) resulted in the error shown in step 30 at the end of the post:
"Sync failed with exception There was an error while trying to deserialize parameter www.microsoft.com/.../05:GetBatchInfoResult. Please see InnerException for more details.
Inner exception message: Type 'Microsoft.Synchronization.ChangeBatch' is an invalid collection type since it does not have a default constructor."
Others have encountered problems of this ilk in CTP 2 of the Sync Framework, but I haven't see similar reports for the SQL Azure Data Sync Preview release. See social.microsoft.com/.../1e58db6e-d772-4d1d-aabd-4c540ea3d738 as an example.
I am running SQL Server 2008 R2 Express SP1 on the local machine.
Suggestions for a fix would be appreciated.
Thanks for the comment. Please check the following to see if that is leading to your issues.
The error is a known issue with .NET Framework 4.5. You are either running the local agent on a Windows 8 machine (which has .NET Framework 4.5), or you have the NET Framework 4.5 installed.
I just added a new item in the Known Issuses article stating that the local agent won't work with Windows 8 Developer Preview. I'll update that to also include .NET 4.5.
