So after almost 5.5 years I was puttering around today, enjoying my weekend when I was reminded that I have content here that I've authored, and haven't touched for ages. Really, eons, even!
I never officially said "goodbye" but anyone could probably tell it's been forever, and that I'm unlikely to post again regularly. But nonetheless I felt it might be nice to put an endcap on this official blog - and give an update on what's been going on for me at Microsoft for anyone who happens to chance upon the content.
So in reflection about blogging - I think it's time to come to the realization that I'm not really a "writer". Although occasionally inspired, I don't usually find myself itching to sit at the keyboard and write to the anonymous beyond that is the internet (a la Carrie Bradshaw). But of course, it doesn't mean I haven't been busy :). Over the last five years since my last post I've been mostly working on integrating changes in the C# language into Visual Studio's language support. If you've developed in C# using VS 2008 or 2010, then you've probably exercised code that I've modified.
Since helping ship VS2010, I've had a career shift as well, and am now leading a team of developers that is working on both the next versions of Visual Basic and C#. It's been an awesome shift for me, and I'm really jazzed that I get to spend a lot of my time collaborating with and mentoring others. One of the things that we're working on was announced in PDC2010, which is the asynchronous language support for VB and C#. It's gonna be awesome! You can find out more about it at [this link] as well as install a CTP that works on top of VS2010.
So that's just a brief summary on what's been going on for me since... 2005 (hah). If you try, you'll probably find traces of me on other parts of the internet, in whatever flavor of the month site (man, I remember when AOL and MySpace were huge, and Facebook was just in between a small network of colleges). I randomly post to twitter (micro-blogging is definitely an interesting migration from long-form blogs), but I'm sure I'll try out the next new big thing :)
Alright - so this is my official "farewell" to whoever may be reading. Perhaps you'll see periodic guest posts from me from some of the Microsoft/Visual Studio/.NET team blogs. Until then!
