A basic question I'm often asked is "where can I go to learn about WPF?" I like to answer this question here on the blog every now and again, both for new readers and to take account of new or changed materials.

Here are a few useful resources that I tend to point people to:

Hope this is useful to some of you.

  • contoso is indeed cool - any idea if source will ever be available?
  • Tim Sneath posts a good set of resources to start your journey with WPF.
He references my PDC 2005 Lap...
  • Brian, it's not our plan to publish the source for this one at this stage - frankly, we'd want to make some changes to it before publishing it to be more compliant with architectural best practices. We are currently discussing the production of a more fully-fledged real world application that demonstrates good practices; nothing to report now but I'll be sure to let folks know when we're getting closer.
  • We have built a community WinFX focused site,, which has lots of links to help people get started with WPF.

Including resources, events, lists of the main bloggers by technology and even some developer challenges.

  • Don't forget that through March, MSDN Events is presenting a session on WPF development. You can catch an MSDN Event on Tuesdays and Thursdays around the US, from 1-5 PM local time. More information is available at
  • Tim Sneath, a Technical Evangelist on all things Vista, has posted a great article on where to start...
  • [This has been produced primaily for UK ISVs we are engaging around Vista and WinFX development - but...
  • There are lots of blogs out there on learning windows presentation foundation ...
    Tim Sneath...
  • Carrie already mentioned this , but today was Jasmine's birthday. She turned six years old today.
