Do you have any knowledge of if and when Microsoft Learning will release Project Server 2007 courseware?

Someone asked, at some point, if 632 can count toward server certs (MCSE) like the other MCTS. Answer is no. But being debated internally! But no.

Oh, does that ever suck. I can't believe Microsoft is not working with vue anymore. I live in japan, so with vue, I just use my credit card, schedule the cert and show up. Retarded prometric you have to pay by bank transfer only, which is almost impossible, you need to fax your request in, then receive a fax, then it gets screwed up, you scores never post. Way to take us back to the 1990s Microsoft. Next thing is windows 98 4th edition will be coming out.

Thanks for your interest in the upcoming Office Project 2007 and Project Server 2007 certifications. Here are some updates and answers based on the posted questions so far.

Q. Why are these new Office Project 2007 certifications not considered to be in the MCAS or "Microsoft Office Specialist" (MOS) certification families?

A. The Microsoft business certifications, such as MCAS and MOS, typically focus on general Microsoft application usage. Given the strong project management standards in market, Microsoft wanted to provide a certification family that complemented these robust PMBOK standards as well as provide a more in-depth training experience on the functionality and features of Project 2007 for desktop and enterprise project management deployments.

Based on the scope of these Project 2007 certifications, they are best represented in the Microsoft New Generation Certification family, including an MCTS for Project 2007 plus an MCTS and an MCITP for Project Server 2007.

Q. Are these certs really about "Project Management" or are they about the management of PM tools?

A. The Project 2007 certifications are focused on the management of PM tools (Office Project 2007) and also complement the PM methodology (PMI/PMBOK)

Q. Can you shed some insight on the method by which Microsoft intends to drive industry adoption of these credentials for Microsoft-associated projects that include enterprise components or large deliveries?

A. Microsoft will be working closely with MPA and PMI to promote these new certifications and adoption through events, local chapters and marketing programs. A key marketing message is to promote how the new Project Server 2007 certifications (MCTS and MCITP)will cover enterprise project management deployments. Microsoft is also interested in working with customers and partners to develop case studies that showcase their successful adoption and deployment of these new Project 2007 certifications. I've recently completed the Beta exams for these three certs. I think they do both, provide a firm grounding in the technology but also put the focus on utilising it within a PM methodology.

Last year when these certs were first announced their was mention made of a fourth, based around "Project Portfolio Management", presumably based upon Project Portfolio Server, any news where they has gotten to?

Trika - is there a microsoft-centric ITSM/ITIL cert? I know about MOF but is there a cert on those lines?

MMMMm, I am already eagerly waiting details and release. For Microsoft-centric organizations, it has been quite some time in waiting for a Microsoft-specific project management credential to see release.

I hope to see this hit our requirements table for our delivery management practice.

We will see how adoption goes both internally and accross the industry. Trika, beyond the livemeeting on the subject, can you shed some insight on the method by which Microsoft intends to drive industry adoption of these credentials for Microsoft-associated projects that include enterprise components or large deliveries?

After taking all 3 exams at beta, I wonder why they are MCTS and MCITP, instead of MCAS and MCAP.

mmmm sounds cool.

I still haven't quite grasped if this is tool focused or methodology focused. Yes of course both ... but are these certs really about "Project Management" or are the about the management of PM tools.

the focus and needs are different - but both are important to different people (just as DBA and DB developing are quite different skillsets )
