Additional Information Regarding CRM 3.0 Refresh for Small Business Server (SBS) 2003 R2

Pink Bubbles Go Ape...

As you have probably read here on the CRM product team blog, a refresh of CRM 3.0 has been released to support installation on SBS 2003 R2. The main driver for this was to accomodate SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition, which replaced SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition from the original release of SBS 2003. As I mentioned in my April 2006 posting here, there are a number of subtly different CRM 3.0 source media diskd in circulation, each differentiated by a different version revision number. Looking at the new English Server image, available for download here, the new refresh release is 3.0.5300.9, as opposed to 3.0.5300.0 which was the original release.

You can check which version of the media you have by using Notepad to edit the \sql\2.0\versionstamp.sql file on the CRM Server CD and look for the following lines:

set @buildnumber = 5300
set @MajorVersion = 3
set @MinorVersion = 0
set @Revision = 9

As far as I can tell, there is no change to the client image, which is still at version 3.0.5300.0.

  • I've been trying to install this build on my SBS-R2 server but the setup fails during LoadDefaultDataAction - in the setup log there is a COM Exception (path not found) so it looks like the setup is trying to access a COM component that isn't there. These things are the devil's own job to troubleshoot. Have you guys seen this problem and is there a known workaround?
