Convergence London Update

It’s probably been slightly noticeable that I’ve been a tad quiet on the blogging front – I think we all know why that might be, my head has been firmly in the Convergence cloud ! We’ve got a fab line-up at Convergence this year covering off the Keynote with Kirill, General sessions with the Global Product Leads for AX, NAV, GP and CRM and guest customer speakers, then onto 28 breakouts covering not only covering Microsoft Dynamics but also general Microsoft technologies that can help benefit our customers’ businesses. So we have the lovely James Akrigg presenting IT’s Time to Change, Julian Datta covering Virtualisation, and Andrew Spooner covering off the future from Microsoft Research.

Not only will we have great session content, we have a much bigger Exhibition Hall this year with some great exhibitors and sponsors from the Microsoft world. Whilst taking a stroll around the Exhibition Hall you should also look to pay a visit to the Microsoft Lounge where Microsoft folk will be on hand to talk product, reference program, customer source and I’m pleased to say Kinect! Yes, Kinect, due to appear in retail stores in November will be at Convergence. For those of you yet to experience Kinect, I would look to pay a visit to the Lounge. I’m not known for my gaming interest or ability – however one look at Kinect being demonstrated and I was sold! HUUUGE News – Microsoft Dynamics ERP Pricing and Licensing News

Effective from today , Microsoft is introducing three lighter access license rights helping extend the ERP solution further into an organisation. You’ll find all details of the announcement on PartnerSource here. If there is one thing you do in the next couple of days, it’s to access the link and download the materials.

There will also be a Partner Academy Live session planned for the 8th September at 4pm GMT. You can register for the Live meeting here – again, please do make the effort to attend, but if you can’t, the meeting will be recorded and made available after the event.

Convergence London 2010 : 14th October, Twickenham– fantastic video from last year’s event!

A lot of organisation is going on behind the scenes in relation to Convergence which should prove to be a fantastic event with a bigger venue, exhibition and many more break out sessions. Registration is due to open in September, but if you visit the Convergence site, you can get yourself set up for Registration Alerts. Upgrading SQL Skills to meet ERP Competency requirements for October 2010

As you will be aware the ERP competencies require partners to hold certain SQL exams. Specifically as of October 2010 they need - Exam 70-432 MS SQL Server 2008 Implementation and Maintenance (Note: the May 2010 requirement allows SQL 2005, however as of October it needs to be SQL 2008)

Harness has worked with Firebrand to create an “option” which enables a partner, probably with old SQL 2005 skills, to “upgrade” their skills to SQL 2008 in a cost effective manner.

Candidates should have one to two years of experience using SQL Server 2008 or two to three years of experience using a previous version of SQL Server. Candidates for this exam are IT professionals who have jobs in which database administration is their main area of responsibility, or they work in environments in which databases are central to their job roles.
