Are you losing business to pirated software?
We are introducing a new initiative called Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) notifications. Launching on 25 August, it aims to help honest partners selling genuine software to gain back revenue they have been losing to pirates.
Software piracy cost the UK economy £1.5billion in 2008 and counterfeit non-genuine software often helps fund criminal activity. OGA notifications help Microsoft combat software piracy and take money out of the hands of software pirates and put it in the hands of our genuine partners - helping genuine partners compete and grow.
Additionally, customers using genuine software can feel confident they are getting the fully-supported software they expect, knowing that they are better protected from viruses and malware.
What is Office Genuine Advantage?
Customers who are using a non-genuine copy of Microsoft Office will receive notifications confirming that their copy of Office is non-genuine. They will receive information to help them get genuine - ensuring their PC and their personal information is secure.
Notifications enable Microsoft and its partners to combat software piracy by helping customers quickly and easily check that the copy of Microsoft Office software installed on their computer is genuine and properly licensed.
Your customers can obtain Office notifications as a voluntary download through Microsoft Update.
If they are using a non-genuine or improperly licensed copy of Office, notifications will alert them with a recurring pop-up dialogue box. The customer will then be given specific options for resolving the error:
Where possible, the OGA website will help them activate their product or adjust settings to pass validation;
Customers who continue to fail validation will be directed to Microsoft partners to purchase a genuine copy of Microsoft Office
What are the benefits of OGA notifications for Microsoft Partners?
Microsoft has released OGA notifications to help level the playing field - directing business to legitimate channel partners and away from counterfeiters. When your competitors sell non-genuine software at a discount, you can be at a competitive disadvantage. With OGA notifications, customers can easily check whether they have genuine Office software and you can build even greater trust and credibility with your customers by enabling them to be certain that the Office licences you sold them are genuine.

Windows 7 Migration Toolkit
With many Education customers still on Windows XP, this important web cast will help with the development of a migration strategy to Windows 7.
In part one of this two-part screencast series, "Building the Deployment Environment," you'll learn how to build media that will automatically migrate computers from Windows XP to Windows 7 with user data, custom applications, and drivers. The demonstration highlights the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) 2010 Beta 2 Deployment Workbench and how it works. In part two, "Initiating the Install and Migrating the PC," you'll see a demonstration of the user experience for migrating the Windows XP computer to Windows 7 and how brief – or “lite touch” – interaction is required up front to automate the entire process of data migration, operating system (OS) installation, driver and application customization, and domain join. MDT 2010 Beta 2 is available as free download from the Solution Accelerators program on http://connect.microsoft.com
Live@edu is a very important Education initiative for Microsoft and we need the support of partners to identify and win opportunities, and then provide services to provision and deploy solutions. Whilst Live@edu is a set of free services hosted by Microsoft for students and educators, the experience of current deployment partners is that Live@edu projects deliver significant service revenues and often result in additional business opportunities as well as a long term relationship with the institution.
