The Microsoft Surface SDK Workstation Edition is now available for premium subscribers with the Microsoft Academic Alliance on MSDN!

    clip_image001

We’ve already had healthy product sales to educational institutions. This offering breaks down the financial barriers for more schools to engage with this multi-touch, multi-user experience that is changing the world. Professors will be able to differentiate themselves and their school – building curricula on how to develop for Microsoft Surface as a springboard into the future of computing. Students will be able to run the simulator on every workstation in the lab, developing with Surface for application projects.

Details of the MSDN Academic Alliance can be found at:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/academic/default.aspx

The MSDN Academic Alliance is the easiest and most inexpensive way for academic departments to make the latest Microsoft software available in labs, classrooms, and on student PCs. The program, which is available in more than 45 countries worldwide, has two primary goals:

    • To make it easier and less expensive for academic institutions to obtain Microsoft developer tools, platforms, and servers for instructional and research purposes.
    • To build a community of instructors who can share curriculum and other learning resources to support the use of these technologies.

    Office Genuine Advantage

Are you losing business to pirated software?

We are introducing a new initiative called Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) notifications. Launching on 25 August, it aims to help honest partners selling genuine software to gain back revenue they have been losing to pirates.

Software piracy cost the UK economy £1.5billion in 2008 and counterfeit non-genuine software often helps fund criminal activity. OGA notifications help Microsoft combat software piracy and take money out of the hands of software pirates and put it in the hands of our genuine partners - helping genuine partners compete and grow.

Additionally, customers using genuine software can feel confident they are getting the fully-supported software they expect, knowing that they are better protected from viruses and malware.

    What is Office Genuine Advantage?

Customers who are using a non-genuine copy of Microsoft Office will receive notifications confirming that their copy of Office is non-genuine. They will receive information to help them get genuine - ensuring their PC and their personal information is secure.

Notifications enable Microsoft and its partners to combat software piracy by helping customers quickly and easily check that the copy of Microsoft Office software installed on their computer is genuine and properly licensed.

    • Your customers can obtain Office notifications as a voluntary download through Microsoft Update.

    • If they are using a non-genuine or improperly licensed copy of Office, notifications will alert them with a recurring pop-up dialogue box. The customer will then be given specific options for resolving the error:

      • Where possible, the OGA website will help them activate their product or adjust settings to pass validation;

      • Customers who continue to fail validation will be directed to Microsoft partners to purchase a genuine copy of Microsoft Office

What are the benefits of OGA notifications for Microsoft Partners?

Microsoft has released OGA notifications to help level the playing field - directing business to legitimate channel partners and away from counterfeiters. When your competitors sell non-genuine software at a discount, you can be at a competitive disadvantage. With OGA notifications, customers can easily check whether they have genuine Office software and you can build even greater trust and credibility with your customers by enabling them to be certain that the Office licences you sold them are genuine.

These are just some of the many comments being made around Windows 7 at the moment.

ARE YOUR APPLICATIONS READY TO RUN ON WINDOWS 7?
If they are, great – make use of various marketing activities to get you product messaging out to existing and potential partners. If they aren’t, no problem – make use of our various technical activities to test and fix them...and then let’s get your product message out.

    HOW CAN WE HELP YOU?

    1. PROMOTING YOUR WINDOWS 7 READY APPLICATIONS

    Benefits:-

    • Recognition and profile at Steve Ballmer customer-focused event in London in October (200+ business decision makers)
    • Opportunity for inclusion in fuller version of directory
    • Opportunity to use references to and extracts from directory on your own site and in your own sales materials

URGENT: GET YOUR SUBMISSION IN ASAP IN ORDER TO BE INCLUDED IN THE DIRECTORY, SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS!

    2. ISV APPLICATION BOOKLET

    3. JOINT MARKETING

    • Joint funded tele-marketing/sales activity with us to promote your Windows 7 compatible applications.

    4. FREE TESTING OF YOUR APPLICATIONS
Have your applications tested for compatibility. You will receive a comprehensive report identifying whether the application has passed and if not, highlighting in detail those areas that need to be addressed, giving your development teams a huge head start to get the applications compatible. In some cases we can also automatically ‘fix’ issues immediately online. This test will also help identify issues that might prevent you from achieving Logo compliance status.

    5. DROP-IN CLINICS
Bring your applications to one of our free clinics being run around the country, manned by Premier Support Engineers where you can stay for anything up to 4 days getting your applications compatible with our assistance.

    6. BRIEFINGS
Want a summary of what has changed which might result in your application not being compatible with Windows 7? Attend one of these 1 day briefings being held throughout the country.

    HOW TO GET STARTED?
A web site dedicated to ISVs and Windows 7 compatibility has been set up at http://www.isvappcompat.com - You can visit this site now and register your applications’ Windows 7 compatibility status.

From the 21st Aug there will be a UK specific version of this site (make sure you choose UK as your location) where all these offers will be advertised with details of how to register for inclusion in the ISV Application booklet, to attend clinics and how to test your applications on-line.
