Following on from last week's blog, the Microsoft interns will be spending an hour on Wednesday 14th May, from 1pm-2pm, talking to 13-18 year old students in the UK about career opportunities in technology, recounting their journeys to becoming interns and answering students’ questions through Microsoft Lync.
What is the Get On Scheme?
Microsoft UK’s ‘Get On’ programme is a flagship citizenship initiative aimed to help 300,000 young people in Britain take meaningful steps towards work. ‘Get On’ creates opportunities through a variety of programmes to help students: Get Inspired, Get Skilled, Get a Job. The interns at Microsoft, who are all university students, run the program and provide insights, skills and advice on their first steps into the working world. It is part of Microsoft’s global commitment to the next generation.
Mandeep Jhitta and Helene Fyffe (to the left!) will be hosting the webinar on Wednesday. The interns are passionate about sharing their learning journeys and the steps they took to becoming interns at Microsoft. Some of us have come from humble beginnings, from dropping out of university to nearly failing exams in 6th form! Our aim is to inspire students to feel empowered to chase opportunities, whether its in technology or another industry. We will spend a good proportion of time talking about the university route, internships to come into Microsoft and the Apprenticeship scheme route.
