I used to play a lot of pool – real pool that is, not simulations. Think grubby pubs, dodgy beer and condemned toilets (I kid you not). I’ve never really dabbled in simulations but this one is rather good. Not only have they kept clear of trying to recreate graphical realism (the doodle look is nice), the controls are good and the physics are too.
The only thing missing is the stench of stale cigarette smoke, Fast Eddie and Fats.
An epic physics-based skiing / crashing game. Slide down the slippery slopes, adjust your posture, take out the robots and ultimately crash in spectacular fashion. Not bad for a Thursday morning.
A feature rich web-browser that gives you back the full screen – control, settings etc are placed on the sides of a cube that can be rotated in 3D. Lots of great features and very highly rated in the Marketplace.
Inspirational food ideas anytime, anyplace, anywhere.
Have you ever wished your grammar was better? This application offers a reference and fun quizzes to help you check and improve your own grammar and perhaps help others improve theirs too.
Scan barcodes and QR codes with this handy utility. A quick test showed it to be more robust than I expected, successfully recognising a few barcodes I found around the office.
Does what it says on the tin really. A tool to make percentage calculations instantly and effortlessly by simply entering two values.
If you ever use a train this is a handy app to have. If you commute by train, it’s a godsend. Live departure / arrival board, journey planner, live tile support etc etc And it usually costs £4.99 but to you, today, it’s free (if you’re on Orange)
Feeling peckish? Today’s offering is All You Can Eat by Christian Stauffer. All You Can Eat helps you track your daily intake of calories, fat and carbohydrates. I wonder how many different types of chocolate it caters for….
It's a bit gruesome - the name of the game is to squish as many of those pesky spiders as you can before they manage to escape. Personally, I'd vacuum them up. It's a lot quicker and a lot less messy...
Akinator is a fun distraction for those idle moments. A bit like Guess Who on steroids, think of a character and Akinator will ask you a series of questions before ultimately “guessing” who’s on your mind. I thought I’d test it out with “Brian Clough” and blow me if it didn’t manage to get the right answer first time after asking me about 15 questions. Then it did the same thing for Nigella Lawson. And Jock Stein. Then Mr Tumble. Wow, I give up…
Stream and download YouTube videos to your Windows Phone with this great app from Fast Code.
Great twitter app that boasts configurable timelines, integrated picture viewing, threaded conversations – both @replies and DMs, Bing maps integration, TwitPic Integration and an integrated web browser. Phew – long list and not to mention the integrated theme which means Birdsong will automatically inherit your theme settings.
This app turns your phone into a GPS device. I’m not much of an outdoor person so the useful ness for me is limited. I generally prefer getting my tans from from the dull glow of an LCD screen, but even I can appreciate the wonderful UI and responsiveness of the application. It feels solid, which is an attribute that’s very rare with applications that rely on GPS.
If you’re as bad as me on a real course then maybe you can regain some dignity on this little pocket Gem. I’ve been playing this for about 10 minutes whilst I'm supposed to be working, so I can vouch for it’s addictiveness.
I travel a lot up and down the country and like nothing more than stopping off for a red bull, Twix and a bag of charcoal. This little app shows you all the service stations on your journey and provides all the details you’d need to make a decision where to stop. From brand of coffee to brand of petrol. If you’re the kind of person that won’t stop unless there's and M&S then this app is indispensible.
Like killing Zombies? Like saving the world? Then your going to love this. An interesting take on the classic tower defence game, this awesome 3D game is worth every penny of it’s £1.99 price tag. So it’s a total steal at 0p.
Todays app provides 8 different clock types. You’re also able to set an alarm.
This app allows you to record a sample and then apply various effects to it.

Seems to be no new app today and i think we have had all of them from the list, are we going to get any more?
Hi James, We don't run the list so I can't sure. All I know is that some of these apps have been added to the list during this promotion. So I expect to see more new apps.
Hi James. Today's app is Train Travel from Avanade UK. Mike
How did you find the app, it doesnt show under the "orange selects" section like normal.
Hi James. It does (or at least did this morning) for me? I'm back on my Mango-build phone now so can't check. Mike
It's shows up on my retail WP7 orange phone.
No free app today? (25 July)
Not yet. The schedule does seem to change a bit at weekends. Fingers-crossed we'll see something later today. Mike
I have noticed that orange haven't actually given us 31 free apps
The schedule does seem to get a little messed up at weekends and it's possible I've missed an app or two but overall they've delivered a ton of great apps you'd usually have to pay for, for free. Kudos to them. I know people on other networks who are very jealous. Best regards, Mike
I have only found out about this offer in the last couple of days - did Orange publicise this of is it just me with my head in the sand? Anyway, absolutely gutted to have missed out on some cool free apps. Hope Orange run this again at some point.
Yeah, was disappointing that none were free on the 30th or 31st.
