Some significant announcements today at Mobile World Congress. Windows Phone will soon be available to almost 60% more potential customers through a combination of entering 23 additional markets and optimising the OS to run on lower-cost hardware (reducing the minimum memory requirement from 512MB to 256MB and enabling lower cost SoC (System on a Chip) processor architectures.

In addition Nokia announced their new Lumia 610 device which will take advantage of these changes. And ZTE announced their new Orbit device.

I have a more detailed post – including technical implications for Windows Phone developers – on my blog.
