SharePoint tools haven't been forgotten in the new wave of developer productivity tooling. The new Visual Studio 11 Beta includes all the familiar tooling from VS 2010, with some additional extensions to:
- Create lists and content types - Create site columns - Create Silverlight web parts - Publish SharePoint solutions to remote servers - Test SharePoint performance using profiling tools - Create Sandboxed Visual Web Parts
In addition, Visual Studio 11 Beta provides much better support for Sandboxed solutions, generating compiler errors where farm-only API calls are found and locking down intellisense to only show APIs that are compatible with sandboxed solutions.
Coupling these new tools with the best of breed community extensions found in CKS:DEV (http://cksdev.codeplex.com) you should find that developing and maintaining SharePoint solutions is getting easier and easier as the product tooling matures. looking forward to the new tools for helping with declarative objects
