imageMicrosoft Partners in Learning is always proud to be associated with great teachers, and whatever we can to support them in developing great teaching and learning opportunities. This includes raising their profiles through events, blog posts and other award nominations. Dan Roberts formerly of saltash.net community school is a previous example. I am pleased to announce that another Partners in Learning Global award winner has received further recognition for the outstanding work they are undertaking in the classroom. Gareth Ritter, Head of Creative technology and arts at Willows High School in Cardiff, is a finalist in this year’s teacher ‘Oscars’, the Pearson Teaching Awards. He is being recognised for his outstanding work in supporting his students in their music and creative arts studies. His website www.askthemusicteacher.co.uk is a key tool, containing a myriad of support resources for his students. But, Gareth’s real impact as an innovator has come from the work and strategies he has employed to support staff not just in his own school, but those locally and further afield. His approach is based on peer support and coaching. It’s having an amazing impact, It can’t be just a coincidence that Willows High School bucked the national trend with their GCSE results, and whilst Gareth wouldn’t claim such a result was down to him, the strategies he has helped implement has certainly contributed the whole school’s success. Gareth is currently working on developing effectively learning strategies that utilise the tools and collaborative features of Office 365. He is truly and expert educator.

Please join me in congratulating Gareth and wishing him good luck in the final judging stages of the awards, by leaving a comment here on this blog or tweeting him directly on @ritzertech with the hash tag #msftpil
