In this session, Quest discussed the future trends for the desktop, the options available, and how to blend different approaches for the right results. They also discussed their current VDI project at Kingston University rolling out globally to 20,000 students and staff – making this a practical session which cuts through the confusion and hype to provide realistic ways forward.

This session delivered by Silversands included a demo of the product.

System Center Configuration Manager
In this session with Dimension Data we explored the key features of SCCM. We explored how organisations can control and manage the power usage of their PC estate – enabling savings of both power and money. The session which is a great mix of live demo and slides also included a future look at SCCM 2012 – the v.next version.

In this session with Inframon – we covered the monitoring of both Microsoft and non-Microsoft environments with SCOM. Again a great mix of live demos and slides – we saw how organisations can move to proactively monitor their entire infrastructure and reporting on SLA targets.

Microsoft System Center – An overview for UK Education
This session provided a look at the system center suite of products with the aim of explaining what each product does – and the benefits they could bring to your organisation. This was an equally good session for people new to System Center or to existing users wanting to know “what’s new?”

System Center Data Protection Manager 2010
This session presented by Microsoft partner Esteem explained how DPM can remove the traditional problems associated with tape based backup. Providing best of breed protection for Microsoft applications including Exchange, Sharepoint and SQL – Esteem also explained how DPM seamlessly protects both physical and virtual environments. We also saw how DPM can be extended – to non-Microsoft workloads, and how backups can also be replicated to cloud based services.

System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2
Presented by Microsoft partner Inframon, this session was a good mix of live demos and slides. We saw how Virtual Machine Manager provides management of both Microsoft and VMWare environments. The demos included a live server migration – with no user perceived downtime.

Office 2010 What’s new for Students and Teachers
Just before the summer holidays, Richard Lane ran a pair of Office 2010 Live Meetings for UK schools, called “Office 2010 What’s new for Students and Teachers.” The session, which consisted predominately of demos of the Office suite, was recorded and Richard's made the recording of it available for all of those who were unable to make it.Office 2010 for Students and Teachers

Windows 7 - deployment best practices for education
The session was jointly presented by Richard Lane, from the Microsoft Education team and Design & Management Systems (DMS) who have helped many education customers deploy Windows 7 effectively – including The Maplesden Noakes School in Kent. The session was a good mix of slides and demonstrations, and covered best practice tools and methodologies to help in all stages of the project from planning right through to deployment.
