    Microsoft Introduces Tafiti

Microsoft today announced the availability of Tafiti , a Silverlight-based search tool on top of Microsoft's Live Search engine. Tafiti, which means "do research" in Swahili, enhances searching on the web by allowing users to store and share search results across multiple queries and sessions. This is accomplished by using "shelfs" to store one or more search results simply by dragging the search result onto one of five shelf spaces. Shelfs can then be stored for future use, or can be emailed or...

    Let’s Get Chunky!

Now that Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2 is available, I wanted to share how we will be able to use Table Valued Parameters (TVP) from ADO .NET. TVP is a new feature of SQL Server 2008 that I discussed in a previous post . The core new idea in ADO .NET that makes this happen is a new parameter data type called SqlDbType.Structured. When you set up a command parameter with this type, ADO .NET and SQL Server do the magic to map your data into the previously defined table type on the server. And speaking...

Jack Gudenkauf on the CLR and Add-In Model for ISVs

A good friend and former team member James Vastbinder has recorded an interview with Jack Gudenkauf and has been gracious enough to share it with the larger ISV community: Jack talks about the BCL team and how they work within the larger Server and Tools business unit. An inside view of the new Add-In Model in 3.5, (Its Jack's baby and he's rightly proud). The Process ISV should mentally walk through when moving to managed code. Tools and utilities used by the CLR team.

RESOLUTION: WPF stops working with VS 2008 Beta 2

As a few users in this thread experienced that WPF can stop working after installing VS 2008. You might see a message such as: MissingMethodException was unhandled Method not found: ' System.Guid MS.Utility.EventTrace.GuidFromId(MS.Utility.EventTraceGuidId) ' . Or: Method not found: ' MS.Internal.ContentType System.Windows.Navigation.BaseUriHelper.GetContentType(System.Net.WebResponse) ' . You will experience Expression Blend or any other WPF application ceasing to launch. I found...

    Softgrid Resources

As our ISVs continue to gain interest in virtualization, we are frequently asked about Microsoft virtualization products and software virtualization with SoftGrid. Until recently there has been relatively little information available on SoftGrid, but after spending a couple of days searching internally and externally I managed to locate some great resources that I would like to share.   Intro and Training First and foremost is a one hour video that really does an excellent job explaining and...

Video Carousel – Silverlight 1.0 RC

Some of my colleagues will be more than a little surprised to see me blogging about Silverlight… It's a great technology, don't get me wrong, but on my team I'm better known for my passion of PowerShell and things plumbing related… certainly not web, graphics and video! Alas, despite the potentially gratuitous use of video and graphics, I had a need for demonstrating Silverlight and the MediaElement for a community service project I'm working on. Intrigued by an earlier version of a Silverlight video...
