The beta release of the second service pack for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 is available through MSDN, TechNet and through Windows Update. A single service pack will update both Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. The beta release is intended for technology enthusiasts, developers, and IT pros who would like to test Service Pack 2 in their environments and with their applications prior to final release.
Windows Vista SP2 and Windows Server 2008 SP2 are updates that address feedback from our customers and partners. The single service pack is being tested by Microsoft and by industry partners and customers during the beta cycle.
Service Pack 2 requires that Service Pack 1 already be installed.
A blocker tool is available for organizations that would like to temporarily prevent installation of Windows Service Pack updates through Windows Update.
Windows Vista SP2 and Windows Server 2008 SP2 should ship in the first half of calendar year 2009.
