ofc-brand_h_rgbOffice 2010 and SharePoint 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) will contain updates that improve stability, performance and security. SP1 will consist of minor updates, including all public updates through June 2011 and all cumulative updates through April 2011, in addition to some previously unreleased fixes that were made specifically for this service pack.

Users can expect the following:

  • Better Internet Explorer 9 browser experience
  • Improved Office Web Apps functionality and Microsoft SharePoint database performance
  • Updates to all 40 SKU languages for Microsoft Office, including Galician, Basque, Catalan and Serbian Cyrillic
  • Updates to Microsoft Access 2010, FAST Search Server 2010 for Microsoft SharePoint, Office Web Apps, Microsoft Project 2010 Search Server 2010 and Microsoft Visio 2010
  • Integrated community content in the Access Application Part Gallery.
  • Better alignment between Project Server and SharePoint Server browser support.
  • Improved backup / restore functionality for SharePoint Server
  • The Word Web Application extends printing support to “Edit Mode.”
  • Project Professional now synchronizes scheduled tasks with SharePoint task lists.
  • Internet Explorer 9 “Native” support for Office Web Applications and SharePoint
  • Office Web Applications support for Chrome
  • Inserting Charts into Excel workbooks using Excel Web Application
  • Support for searching PPSX files in Search Server
  • Visio fixes scaling issues and arrowhead rendering errors with SVG export
  • Proofing Tools improve spelling suggestions in Canadian English, French, Swedish and European Portuguese.
  • Outlook Web Application attachment preview (with Exchange Online only)
  • Office client suites using “Add Remove Programs” Control Panel, building on our work from Office 2007 SP2.

Each product in Office and each Server capability area will have changes in SP1. Specific changes will be detailed on TechNet and in KB Articles.

SP1 is expected to be available for download at the end of June and will be offered as an automatic update 90 days later.
