System Center 2012 Release Candidate (RC) joins Hyper-V and Windows Server as key building blocks for Microsoft's private cloud strategy.
ISVs are building out their cloud strategy by selling software for deployment to on premises or cloud customer sites, selling subscriptions through their own hosted solution, or by using Platform as a Service offering of Windows Azure, or even hybrid approaches where part of the application and its data is in the cloud, part on premises.
Brad Anderson published a blog post that describes how public and private clouds come together.
Microsoft System Center 2012 offers unique application management capabilities that can empower you to deliver agile, predictable application services to your business counterparts. System Center 2012 enables the concept of "Application as a Service"—where a "Service" is a deployed instance of a cloud style application along with its associated configuration and virtual infrastructure.
System Center provides the glue that helps you and your customers monitor the health of those solutions. In enterprise applications, ISVs need to have a way to monitor how their app is doing so IT Pros can effectively manage the application.
For IT Pros, and the developers that work with them, managing applications and environments is key to transforming IT infrastructure into services the business can use to quickly and reliably deliver applications from the cloud. With a deep understanding of customers’ applications acquired through years of delivering industry leading IT products, Microsoft’s System Center can manage applications running on physical servers, virtualized servers, private clouds or in the public cloud.

Operations Manager. The Operations Manager Management Pack Development Kit provides you with the techniques to design and build a management packs for your app to be monitored by Operations Manager. You can also extend Operations Manager through scripting and code using the System Center 2012 - Operations Manager SDK.
Orchestrator. The System Center 2012 Orchestrator Software Development Kit (SDK), previously named the Opalis API, is a way for developers to create custom integrations with Orchestrator by using their own custom code and adding on an easy-to-understand interface layer that enables the integration with Orchestrator activities. Orchestrator enables you to automate best practices. This is achieved through workflow processes that orchestrate System Center and other management tools in an integrated manner to automate incident response, change and compliance, and service-lifecycle management processes.
System Center 2012 integrates eight separate component products into one unified solution, streamlining installation and reducing the time it takes to deploy from days down to hours. The number of product versions has also been simplified, so customers will be able to choose between the Standard and Datacenter editions of the product, based on their virtualization requirements. And because System Center 2012 Datacenter edition licensing covers unlimited virtual machines, customers can continually grow their private clouds without additional licensing costs for virtualizing their infrastructure and applications.
