A group blog from members of the VB team
Crystal Reports has been a part of Visual Basic since 1993, and a part of Visual Studio since its first release in 2002. Crystal Reports has been a very successful component of these products. With the release of Visual Studio 2010, SAP and Microsoft have mutually decided to change how we deliver this important component to the .NET developer community going forward.
Starting on Friday, April 16th, the beta version of Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 will be available as a separate download from this site. Just like when Crystal Reports was integrated into the Visual Studio installation, this download will continue to be free.
Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 will contain many new features compared to Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008. This blog on the SAP Developer Network goes into more detail on the new features and how they benefit report designers, .NET developers, and report consumers.
Both SAP and Microsoft believe this change in delivery method will allow for faster innovation of our respective products, and more value for our mutual customers.
Shekhar, I am sorry to hear that you are having problems debugging a crystal reports report in Visual Studio 2010. In order for us to help diagnose your issue, it would be very helpful if you could gather the following information for us:
1. Which version of Visual Studio are you using?
2. What is the operating system being used where this error occurs?
3. To clarify, which version of Crystal Reports was installed? Is it CR for VS 2010 Beta 2, or Crystal Reports 2008?
4. Are you building a Winforms project or an ASP.NET Website project?
5. Are you starting with a new project or an existing project?
6. Was a new report added to the project (“Add New Item” workflow), or an existing report added to the project (“Add Existing item” workflow)?
7. Is the Crystal Reports viewer being used in the project? If yes, when adding the viewer to the form, were the Crystal Reports assemblies automatically referenced in the project?
8. Which version of the CR assemblies are referenced in the project? In WinForms project, click on one of the CR assemblies referenced in the Solution Explorer and check the Properties window. For ASP.NET Web Site project, check the web.config file for referenced assemblies.
9. Is the report bound to the viewer? If yes, how? There a couple of ways to bind a report to the viewer:
a. Using the Chrome gestures provided by the viewer to pick a report to bind to.
b. Using the CR SDK in code to load and bind the report to the viewer.
10. Does the error occur when running the project? If so, what is the exact error message?
When you have that information, I would like to suggest that you post your problem as well as the information you gathered from these questions to the forums located at forums.sdn.sap.com/forum.jspa. With that information, the Crystal Reports support teams who monitor those forums can help get you going again.

Orherhe, the error you are getting is commonly the result of having a previous version of either Visual Studio or Crystal Reports installed on your machine. Installing the Crystal Reports beta is currently only supported on machines that have not had any previous versions of Visual Studio or Crystal Reports installed on the box, even if they have been uninstalled.
If you were trying to install the Crystal Reports beta on a clean machine with only Visual Studio 2010 installed, then I would suggest posting to the Crystal Reports forum at forums.sdn.sap.com/forum.jspa where they have support personnel who can help you to figure out what the problem is.
douglas, i can't find the CR viewer, but i can make the cr report.
Hi Ali, can you tell me what you are trying to do when you cannot find the CR viewer?
Orherhe Lewis, uninstall crystal then delete the folder in program files.
i have same problem like Orherhe Lewis.
I downloaded crystal report beta2 for vs 2010 but I get this Error: Cannot install product to C:\programfiles\sap businessobjects\. This product is not compatible with the existing installation. Please any solution.
There is a new report writer on the market that looks pretty good - check them out at www.dbinc.com
After I use crystal report for vs 2010. In the event viewer always show error about crystal report like "..The keycode assembly, BusinessObjects.Licensing.KeycodeDecoder.dll, cannot be loaded."
So I am not sure that it will have any bad effect or not.
Patinya, that is not an error that I am familiar with. Even though it does not seem to have any adverse effects, I would encourage you to post about your issue on the SAP support forums at forums.sdn.sap.com/forum.jspa. By doing so, the SAP support folks can help you to determine the cause of the error and fix your machine, or fix it for a future release if it is a bug.
I am using crystal reports in in VS 2010 and it is very nice, but in this conversion from previuos versions, The reports are taking the style of my stylesheet, Any advice
Sorry correcting myself, the reports are not taking the style of my stylesheet.
I have downloaded and install CR 4 for VS 2010. Installation goes on fine but when i start loading VS 2010, i get the error like VSTS database .. professional package did not load correctly. this may be caused by an extension ... When i try to create a new report, there results 4 warnings about references of CristalDecisions.Shared etc. When i try to run the report, 25 errors are generated which all seem to converge to one thing, that reportclass is not found. Am in total darkness

I have also got "Cannot install product to C:\programfiles\sap businessobjects\. This product is not compatible with the existing installation. " message after attempting to install the VS 2010 version of Crystal reports. I have existing code in Visual Studio 2005 that uses Crystal and I would like to maintain it in VS 2005 (at least at the moment). I suspect that this error is raised because I have the older version installed (abd possibly because I have un-installed another version of Crystal. Will the final release of Crystal for VS 2010 be compatible with an existing version of an older product?
I just finished installing VS 2010 Pro (upgrade from VS 2005 Standard) and was looking at the release notes and read about the download for CR for VS 2010. I already have CR 2008. Will it work with VS 2010? If I download and install the CR for VS 2010 will it have the same (or more) features as CR 2008 or is it a crippled version that will require me to purchase a new full version when it comes out of beta? Also, when is it expected to be out of beta?
