Updated Virtual Machine Additions for Windows Server 2003 SP1 are now available here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=A963433C-193B-41AC-AF6E-AB7AB2DB8541&displaylang=en

You will need these if you want to run Windows Server 2003 SP1 on top of a virtual machine on Virtual Server 2005 or Virtual PC 2004.  This update is not necessary for Virtual Server 2005 R2.

Cheers,
Ben

  • You say that these VMAdditions are required also for VPC2004, but the .msp are available only for virtual server.
Perhaps you can consider allowing the download of the iso of the additions directly
  • Glad to see there's an officially supported way to run Windows Server 2003 SP1 for those who haven't been able to move up to R2 yet.
  • I don't see a download for VPC 2004.
  • since were talking about vmadditions, and R2 and original releases...

regretfully, i dont recall if im speaking about Win95 or Win98 (or both), but after i updated to R2, and did a new install of [one of those 9x's], the R2 vmadditions would not work. i had to find a server to install the original release of Virtual Server 2005 on, and steal the .iso file out of it. once i loaded that older vmadditions.iso file, the 9x had no trouble installing.

am i crazy, or has anyone else with R2 seen this?
  • These don't work for VPC 2004. Where can I get a version for that? Thx.
  • All - No, there is currently no download available for Virtual PC. We're looking into ways we can get it to Virtual PC users, but it's going to take some time - sorry about that.
  • Would installing the R2 additions on VPC work?
