Laser Squad under Virtual PC

Laser Squad under Virtual PC

Laser squad was a game made by the development team who would go on to create the infamous XCOM series - and it shows many of the hallmarks of the later games.  Having said that - I never enjoyed laser squad that much at all.  The interface for the game is just a bit too clunky and it completely lacks a compelling story - which results in the game feeling like a pointless, albeit challenging, strategic challenge.

Laser Squad runs well under Virtual PC - but it is very fast so you will probably want to use a slow down program on it.

Cheers,
Ben

  • Yeah, it was a pity that there were only the five scenarios, and there wasn't anything bridging them per se.

My favourite was the assassination mission in the house - a few friends and I took turns to see how few moves we could kill the guy in - someone did it in two (one rocket launcher to the front door, one straight through the house to the toilet the guy was hiding in). That was fun.

Aiming was pointless as you'd miss most of the time (like Xcom), but we found that aiming only one or two squares ahead of the soldier improved accuracy to 100% in a straight line!
