Battle Chess II was released in 1990, two years after the original Battle Chess. Battle Chess II sports higher quality graphics and support for Sound Blaster sound effects (though it actually uses the Sound Blasters musical "FM" capabilities for these sound effects - which is kind of odd).
But the biggest change from the original Battle Chess is that Battle Chess II is "Chinese Chess", or Xiangqi. The animation of the Chinese pieces is quite effective, especially that of the cannons. But, I have spent more of my life playing western chess, so I do find this a little off putting.
The game runs quite well under Virtual PC, though the screen does flicker occasionally while pieces are moving.
What OS is it running on?
I can't find my old MS-DOS 6.22 disks, and I had a data crash years ago which wiped my copies I had of Windows 1.0(!) and 3.11.
What do you suggest for old operating systems, re: how to obtain (legally) -- garage sales?
Ben in Portland.
Very nice game that provides us with great insight !!!
Try DosBox... I Don't know why anyone would need to use anything else.
Probably because not everything works perfectly under DOSBox and many games don't work at all.
