Just over a month ago, my third child was born.  I have enjoyed having some time off to look after the family – but now I am back at work, and back to blogging.  In my time away from work there have been a plethora of releases on the Microsoft virtualization front, and here is a quick summary of them all:

  • Windows Server 2008 SP2

Windows Server 2008 SP2 rolls up both the RTM version of Hyper-V and a number of hotfixes that have been released since.  For new deployments of Windows Server 2008 this is the best way to get up and running with the RTM version of Hyper-V.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 RC

The release candidate build of Windows Server 2008 R2 adds a lot of stability and bug fixes, as well as some interesting new functionality.

  • Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 RC
    Download: Here

Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 has also been released in RC form.

  • System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 RC
    Download: Here

The release candidate of System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 adds some cool new features, like being able to queue up live migrations.

As well as all of this we have officially announced that Windows Server 2008 R2 will be generally available this year, on the 22nd of October.

Fun times all around.

Cheers,
Ben
