You can start playing with the next version of System Center Virtual Machine Manager today!  To download it – go here and follow the directions:

http://www.microsoft.com/systemcenter/en/us/virtual-machine-manager/vm-vnext-beta.aspx

Some of the key changes that are in this release include:

  • Numerous improvements to allow you to build and manage a private cloud environment
  • The ability to define “services” that are comprised of multiple connected virtual machines – and then to manage them as a single unit.
  • Huge improvements to resource optimization
  • The ability to manage Hyper-V, VMware ESX and Citrix XenServer
  • And many more

You can also read more about this release here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg610610.aspx

I am downloading it right now to get it setup in my environment – and will post more as I get to play with it.

Cheers,
Ben

  • SCVMM 2008 R2 sucked hard, so hard to the point that I use it only for the Self-Service portal. I hope this is a much better release and it fix the problems that it had with clustered Hyper-V environments (HA requirements for VMs, P2V limitations, etc.).

    Cheers,

    Akuma.

  • Ben have you blogged about the setup you actually use to play with this stuff. Looking to build my own test lab
