Hyper-V Program Manager
Over on the Windows Server team blog – Bill Laing has announced the availability of the Windows Server “8” beta (which you can download now):
There is lots of cool new Hyper-V functionality in there – and as I migrated my last Windows Server 2008 R2 server to Windows Server 8 last weekend – I am looking forward to telling you all about it in the coming weeks and months.
I am running windows 7 with a Virtual PC (With or without XP Mode) And I would like to install windows 8 preview in this Virtual PC enviroment ... Question, can I simply go into XP mode and install W8 there???
Windows 8 doesn't run on Windows Virtual PC, at least the Developer Preview didn't work.
Looking forward to ramping up on Hyper-V 3 and learning much much more. I'm sure your future posts will be invaluable to that. One quick question I hope you can answer. Obviously I'm very aware plans can change, but does Hyper-V 3 on Server require SLAT? I'm aware its required on Windows 8 client but would like to know if SLAT is going to be a requirement on servers or not. Obviously this can have an impact on customers with existing server infrastructure that don't have SLAT support, or for the enthusiast community who run servers at home :o) (My LGA 775 chipset Q9550 doesn't support SLAT - sad times...)
Many thanks in advance.
Does Client Hyper-V support RemoteFX?

Sorry, you cannot run Windows 8 under Virtual PC. You need to use Hyper-V for this.
We only require SLAT to run Hyper-V on the client release. It is not required for Hyper-V on server.

Hyper-V in the Windows Consumer Preview does not support RemoteFX (I am not allowed to talk about the future).
Thanks Ben that's good to hear! I'll be moving my Home Server setup to Win8 very soon I feel :) Oh and looking to purchase a new client workstation so to try out Hyper-V on the client, was due an upgrade anyway ;o)
