Installing Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 on Windows 7 Ultimate x 64

Hi Ben,

I have a problem to access my virtual server 2005 R2 SP1. After I have installed this virtual server on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and click the "Virtual Server Administration Website", a pop up winodw informed me to input both user name and password. After I had input all of them and pressed "Enter" key, the same pop up window showed up again and requested me to input both user name and password. I repeated input all of them again and a new window page showed "HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized". I repeated the previous steps again and the same error result came out ??

I certainly sure that both my user name and password are correct. Is there anything misstake I have done during installing the virtual server 2005 R2 SP1. Now, I list out my installation procedure as below :

1. Go to Computer Configuraton\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Application Compatibility and enable all of the "Turn off" entries.

2. Go to Computer Configuraton\Administrative Templates\System\Troubleshooting and Diagnostics\Application Compatibility Diagnostics and disable all the entries.

3. Reboot the PC.

4. Install the virtual server 2005 R2 SP1 which is download from Microsoft Web site.

5. Go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Virtual Server and rename Vssrvc.exe to Vssrvc_win7.exe.

6. Run regedit and replace all occurrences of "Vssrvc.exe" to "Vssrvc_win7.exe." There are around 5 to 6 enteries need to be replaced.

7. Undo the group policy changes in step 1 above.

8. Undo the group policy changes in step 2 above.

9. Reboot the PC.

After system reboot, click "Start" and select "Virtual Server Administration Website".

Can you help me to solve this problem ?

Trying both in Vista RC2 x64. Running into network issues. In Virtual Server R2 x64, the network connection in the virtual machines show as cable disconnected.

In Virtual PC 2007 x64, have the same issue, but with some tweaking, it works for a bit, and then start getting some sparatic issues.

Boot back into XP, same files, and no issues... The virtual machines have real static/dhcp addreses. The host has a broadcom network adapter.

Ideas?

Hey Ben,

I recently had a hell of a time getting this working on RC1. With the help of Charlie Russel (a fellow MVP) I found out that you ALSO need to make sure that the local machine is in the TRUSTED intranet zone to properly connect up. Once I did that, the "Access Denied" errors went away and I could properly connect.

Thought I would give you the heads up on that.

I have an issue about Virtual Server and Vista. When I start "Virtual Server Administration Website", IE7 purpose me to download VSWebApp.exe.

Have you got an idea?

perfect timing !!.. THANK YOU.. I was installing the vmware player, as it was the only app I could find to run on RC2 of Vista and run a VPC image..
