Ben, I changed the size of and booted a parent VHD file and now need to get data off a child AVHD file. Is there any hope?

Jerry -

Without the parent AVHD there is no way to get the data from the child AVHD.

Dear Ben. My server is running Server2008 STD with HyperV server. I have an AVHD file which lost it's parent AVHD file. I couldn't find the XML file either. Is there any chance I could open the AVHD file to get the data inside. Or I could use Server2008 R2 RC to mount the AVHD file. Regards, Jerry.

Unfortunately that is too big of a change for us to address in R2.

From my testing of R2 snapshots are still not deleted until the the VM is shutdown. This is a concern with many of my customers that creating a snapshot will require some amount of downtime, even though it may be brief. Is this an item on the radar or a chance it'd be addressed in R2 RTM?
