We’ve been looking into the widely-reported problem with Visual Studio 2010 where context menus contain scrollbars even when there is sufficient screen real estate to show the menu without one. We’re pleased to announce that there are patches available for Visual Studio and Windows Presentation Foundation that fix this problem. You will need to install both patches to fix this issue

  1. Visual Studio 2010 patch: http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/KB2345133
  2. Windows Presentation Foundation 4.0 patch: http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/KB2413613
    1. X86: NDP40-KB2413613-x86.exe.
    2. X64: NDP40-KB2413613-x64.exe.

If you have any additional questions, post here (on the blog comment section) and we will follow up to ensure a bug is filed or a solution is found.

  • Great fix! Thanks a lot!

However, when scrolling is indeed needed, we can't use the mouse wheel! A fix for this?

  • Mouse wheel works for me...  Not saying you are not seeing what you are seeing, I'm saying it does not affect everyone (and should be fixed since it is a bug)

  • @Gabriel

I haven't had a chance to look into this yet, but since others (at least gm in the comment below you) seems to have this work properly I assume it is likely related to your specific mouse model (we have seen some strange behaviors with various hardware and their message sending 'patterns').

Can you post what kind of mouse you have specifically (make and model) and the OS you are running on?  It might help to repro the issue and then we can try to look into where the problem is at exactly.

  • Hello,

I'm having serious crashes with VS2010 ultimate even after apply the patches highlighted by scott gu (VS Find and Replace Dialog 2010 and VS 2010 Growing Cut / Copy "Insufficient Memory" issue).

I use windows seven 32-bit / Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93 GHz with 4GB of DDR 3. When the process (devenv.exe) reaches about 900MB, the vs2010 it is slow and crashes. I have to close and open VS2010 again to return to work.

That's annoying, it's happening several times. I have spare memory (4GB).What can be causing this? We work on a project ASP.NET Web Application + Entity Framwork + + SQL Server 2008 + DevExpress components.

  • @Giovane: Would you please file a connect bug for your issue? connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio has the details. The problem you're seeing has nothing to do with the recent hotfixes and should be tracked through //connect. Thank you.
