We’re excited to announce that today, Visual Studio 2012 Update 2 (VS2012.2) is now available for download.

For an overview of the five areas of investments in VS2012.2 that we made across agile planning, quality enablement, Windows Store development, line-of-business development, and the general developer experience, please visit Soma’s blog. In particular, you can find an outline of the new functionality and issues we’ve fixed in Visual Studio 2012 Update 2 and comprehensive details on the respective blogs below:

If you encounter a bug or an issue, please report it through the Visual Studio, LightSwitch, and Blend Connect sites. As always, we want to hear your suggestions or feature ideas/improvements so please tell us on UserVoice or vote on other user’s suggestions.

  • Does anyone also getting the error "unable to locate package source". It's asking for packages\WinLibJS_CORE\WinLibJS_CORE.msi.

  • To Jim - having the same problem and no solution so far

MS always finds the way to bring something workable to absurdity.

Some blogs suggest using torrent or thepiratebay to download legitimate VS update? Come on guys. LOL Microsoft - this is just stupid, why not just have full downloads, like NORMAL people would do.

  • @Cathy Sullivan There also seem to be some bug related to solutions loaded from a mapped network drive.

VS stops responding when closing solution and sometimes when getting files from TFS. This started after Update 1.

This is only happening to solutions/projects loaded from the network drive, no problems what so ever when loaded from local drive.

  • @Martin - Thanks. Please log a bug on our Connect site so that we can follow up and further investigate your issue. Please include detailed repro steps so we can try to reproduce internally. Also let us know which version of VS you are using and if you have Update 2 installed or not.

    Thanks,

    Cathy Sullivan

  • @Jim and @AL

Thanks for reporting this issue, could you tell me more information about the VS sku(Express, Pro, Ultimate...) and which OS you are on? Also language and other updates installed would be useful information..

    Thanks

VS 2012 Premium, version 11.0.50727.1 RTMREL; OS - Windows 7 Enterprise SP 1, Language - English US,

  • Thanks for responding @AL

I did not see this issue reproducing for me. Any other details you could provide? Did you have VS Update 1(I did try this path also)? Did you install any VS Update 2 CTPs? Any VS extensions of significance installed? did you install to a custom location on disk? Did you do anything other than running the VS2012.2.exe? Did you have VS open while installing? Did you install any Windows Library for JavaScript updates separately from VS Update?

    Again, thanks.

  • "The amd64 compiler is still not fully updated.

cl.exe is still version 50727, but the other files such as c1.dll are at version 60315.

When compiling _MSC_FULL_VER is reported as 170050727

I though this "X64-based Visual C++ tool set does not contain all cumulative fixes for the x86-based Visual C++ tool set in Visual Studio 2012 updates" was supposed to fix this issue."

I can confirm this, wasn't it supposed to be fixed? All the other compilers are updated, just not the x64 native one.

  • Same error as kvasi reported, every time I load a solution:

System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at r.TextViewCreated(IWpfTextView textView) at Microsoft.VisualStudio.Text.Editor.Implementation.WpfTextView.<>c__DisplayClassc.<BindContentTypeSpecificAssets>b__9() at Microsoft.VisualStudio.Text.Utilities.GuardedOperations.CallExtensionPoint(Object errorSource, Action call)

    Any ideas?

  • I'm wonder why Microsoft complicated the life, ISO file is a must which can be proved by their support in windows 8 and every where.

I really got frustrated with this download strategy (very basic download speed, no resume, no down loader feedback,no concurrent check for internet availability, no options for which parts to download,no ,no ,no etc.

Please help us to help Microsoft.

  • Jim/AL - I had the same problem.

  • This update is terrible, doesn't download so you try the /layout version still can't find particular packages. Just give us an iso with the whole thing. Update 1 was a mess and Update 2 is just as bad.

Why do you guys have to be going backwards... I thought you should be setting the standards here.

  • Installed Update 2. Currently getting files from TFS (VPNd into my workplace). When I "get latest", everything is fine, except for one sub-project that has underscores ( i.e. '_' ) in it. When I try to get that project, the application hangs, stuck on Contacting server to get items. Tried many times with no luck. This project could "get latest" fine in Update 1. I can get everything else one by one, but if that sub-project is included, the whole thing hangs.

The actual project name I use is "boost_1_50_0". I believe our TFS Server was updated on the weekend to Update 2 as well.

  • Tried using an older install of Visual Studio 2008 SP1 with the following patch applied: support.microsoft.com/.../2673642

Same problem. I can't get my project that has the underscores.
