It is now February 2013, updated VAssistX and AhnkSVN and 2010 still crashes intermittently. Out of 3 different machines it reoccurrs regularly on 2 and never on 1. The 2 machines it crashes intermittently on are desktop PCs using multiple monitors, the other machine is a laptop and only ever uses one display.

I installed Visual Studio 2010 (and also both Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Studio 2012 RC) on Windows 8 Release Preview (build 8400). I had VS2010 installed on Windows 8 Consumer Preview (build 8250) and was having no problems, but I was not able to install VS2012 on that build of the OS, so I upgraded to Windows 8 RP. Since upgrading, VS2010 keeps crashing. Both VS2008 and VS2012RC seem to work fine.

This post fixed my VS2010 XAML slownes & crashes & double toolbox items with 65+ SL MVVM projects Solution

Also recommending: VS2010->Tools->Options->TextEditor->XAML->Miscellaneous->give a TICK in front of »Always open documents in full XAML view« (XAML file will now by default first open in XAML view - not in design view which can be so sloooow)

Tip no 2: VS2010->Tools->Options->UNTICK all under Visual Experience (Automatically adjust visual experience etc...)

Hi, during my installation on Visual studio 2010 C# Express i got blue screen.

After that i continue my installation. I got an error during open new project, "New project/item dialog could not be initialized due to error:

Exception of type

'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Dialogs.DialogInitializationException' was thrown. "

I tried:

1. uninstall and install again

2. repair

3. uninstall, clear registry and install again.

The problem also cannot be solve, i needs ur help....pls...and thank you so much in advance ^^

I develop with VS2010 SP1 and now (March 2012) I have a lot of crashes, while I'm editing files or build or sometimes while I'm doing nothing. In my opinion is a bad idea propose a development environment plenty of bugs....should be better wait for a more stable dev suite instead of propose each year a new dev environment

This issue resolution did not work for me. I didnot have AnkhSVN earlier, but installed after reading the suggestions in this blog.

But then what if you ARE on XP? There is no such option, I could revert to much older version compatibility, but my guess is I don't want that. It's been like this for weeks now, every odd build/debug I do it restarts the software...

Insofar, none of the above solutions worked for me.

I have a simple solution for the crash in Microsoft Visual Studio Express, which may also work in other versions with applied updates:

Simply right click the program and select properties, select compatibility tab, and check run the program in compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 3 and check run as administrator.

The program should run as normal now, no graphic errors and no crashes.
