This blog post is part of the Beginner’s Guide series with the goal to get you productive fast.

Once you’ve created your account, you need to create a project. A project is where you store all your source code, as well as tasks and builds.

If you like Scrum, selecting the default process template is a good idea. Otherwise, here’s some help about what process template to choose:

Microsoft Visual Studio Scrum 2.0 (default) is built for teams practicing the Scrum methodology, and want to use the Scrum terms, such as “Product Backlog Item.”

MSF for Agile Software Development 6.0 supports iterative and incremental software development. MSF for Agile can also be used to implement Scrum, however it is adaptive for more general use.

MSF for CMMI Process Improvement 6.0 supports an approach whose goal is to help organizations improve their performance. Development with CMMI emphasizes traceability and auditability.

Click Create Project, wait a few moments, and you are ready to go!

Done! You now have your very own TFS Server in the cloud.

  • Creating a team Project...once I click the finish button....still seems to take too long. Have you guys done any additional perf work to make it instant? It should be instant (like fogbugz), no? You guys do now have thousands of cores in Azure right?

  • We understand this is taking too long and are working to fix the problem, in a way that doesn't require 1,000 cores. :-)

  • How can I erase the Project? I cannot change the name after I created, but I hope I can erase it if I spell wrong, or please add some confirmation for double check the name there before create operation.

  • Hi,

I would like to kown if it is (/will) be possible to import customized process template in TFService ? In the same way, is it possible to update/import new reports ?

    Thanks

  • How can i delete a project ?

  • To delete a project, check out: blogs.msdn.com/.../how-to-delete-a-team-project-from-tfs-on-azure.aspx

  • How long should it take to create a Team Project? Its been a good 7 minutes, the progress bar is at 20%. Are you hosting all of these TFS instances on a 486 or something?!

  • Hey Bobby. We know that the time to create a team project is way too long. Most of the time its done in about 2 minutes. Sometimes it takes longer, and we are working to improve that.

  • any literature on moving existing in-premise team projects to TF-Service? Or would that require an upgrade?

  • Hi Edu,

As of right now the Team Foundation Service Preview does not support migration of data from and to the cloud. This is one of the important features that we will complete as we expand to  broad availability and paid subscriptions. thanks.

  • Hi,

I tried to search for the differences between MSF for CMMI process improment 5.0 and 6.0, but in vain. I'd appreciate if you could provide some pointers.

    Thanks.
