Error installing Visual Studio 2008 SP1 Beta and Silverlight Tools Beta 1

  • Comments 52

Summary

Microsoft Silverlight Tools Beta 1 for Visual Studio 2008 is not compatible with Visual Studio 2008 SP1 Beta.   The good news is that Silverlight Tools Beta 2 for Visual Studio 2008 SP1 is coming soon.  Until then you will not be able to install both Silverlight Tools and Visual Studio 2008 SP1.

Until Silverlight Tools Beta 2 ships you'll need to uninstall Silverlight Tools Beta 1 to evaluate Visual Studio 2008 SP1 Beta.  Likewise, if you've already installed Visual Studio 2008 SP1 Beta then you'll need to uninstall it before installing Silverlight Tools Beta 1.

How to get Help?

Heath Stewart has an excellent post and utility at http://blogs.msdn.com/heaths/archive/2008/05/09/visual-studio-and-net-log-collection-utility.aspx on how to collect the VS setup logs and where to upload them on Microsoft Connect when reporting a problem.

  • Does VS 2008 SP1 beta not work with the Express edition either? That's the one I'm having trouble with.

  • Hi Joshua,

There is a version of VWD Express SP1 Beta.  The SP1 Beta version of VWD Express is a full product download versus an update (as is the case for VS2008).

    Hope this helps.

  • VS2008 and .Net 3.5 SP1 Beta - Install complete

  • I installed the SP 1 Beta version, and my workflows doesn't work anymore. WHen I try to opn the file, it says that the component is not installed anymore ??? wth ?

  • Hi Bonkers,

Can you give specific details as to what you're seeing and hopefully we can point you in the right direction.  Are you saying that SharePoint Workflow projects don't work for you anymore, or something else?  What file type are you trying to open?  What's the specific error?  I'm assuming this only started occuring after installing SP1; if so do you have any other pre-release software installed, such as Silverlight B1 or B2 installed on your machine?

    Thanks,

  • Hi Bokers, another quick follow up.  Can you describe how you created your workflows?  I believe there are two kinds, one under the Office node and the other one is under the Workflow node.

  • Today, Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 was released. This service pack includes support for SQL Server
