TFS Integration Platform – Why are my labels not moving? Question & Answers 5

Common question: “Does the TFS Integration Platform support labels?”Orange Person Seeing Stars And Lying On Their Back After Slipping In Front Of A Caution Sign Clipart Illustration Image

Current answer: The current  versions of the TFS Synchronization and Migration Toolkit and the latest TFS Integration Platform do not support the migration and/or synchronization of labels. The current TFS Version Control Adapter does not migrate labels and you would need to do some work in terms of extending the out-of-the-box adapter if you need support for labels.

Support for labels is on the backlog of features to consider, but as it is not implemented as yet, it is important to consider the impact as part of your planning of migrations and synchronisation scenarios. Proceed with caution.

  • We have about 10 years of legacy code in SourceSafe. Labels have been used exclusively for managing release points and code migration.

I'm spearheading an effort to migrate to VSTS, but I have no idea how to maintain all of those legacy markers. Any tips would be appreciated.

  • So in 2012 migration does seem to take labels. But if you rename parent folder all the labels are lost. This really sucks.
